Rat Vision

Have you ever noticed that children "cannot" see things right in front of them? My husband has coined a term for this, "Rat vision". It has something to do with rats not seeing or bothering trash cans put out after dark or something like that. I'll give you an example, boys cleaning their bedrooms. I will go into the room and detail what it means to clean the bedroom.

- Make your bed
- Put away your clean laundry
- Take your dirty laundry to the laundry room
- Clean off all surfaces (dressers, shelves, window sills)
- Clean up the floor

Simple right? Inevitably, when I go in for inspection, the floor is still littered with dirty socks, empty water bottles, shoes, etc.... especially around the edges of the room. When I point them out, the kids seem genuinely surprised at my disappointment. It is as if they really can't see the stuff till I point it out.

Similarly, questions like "where are my shoes???", "where is the remote??", "I can't find my DS!" are all met with the same solution, mommy using her magic eyeballs to look for them. Like I have some special skill that no one else in the house possesses, vision. Is this a boy thing, or is it just a kid thing?

Networking can be expensive!

I went to a cool women's networking meeting the other night. It was with an organization called Heartlink . It was at some one's house. An awesome dinner was served. Tables set, lovely hospitality, and about 20 very interesting women were there. We each got 3 minutes to introduce ourselves and tell a bit about our business's. Most of the women knew each other already. Many of the women present had business's that sell through direct marketing. Most of the big ones were represented, and a few new ones I had never heard of but found interesting. There were also women with other business's like insurance, legal services, printing, etc... It is great to meet like minded people, and I can definitely see the benefits of attending regularly. The bad part however, is it leaves you wanting to go shopping! All of a sudden, I MUST have the new mango cutter from Pampered Chef, and I am yearning to freshen up my candles, and I NEED a hole new wardrobe from CABi . ...

The Sky is Blue

I want to thank all of you who lift my family up in prayer.  I thank all of you who give us encouragement.  I try really hard to see the cup 1/2 full, and most days I do.  I was feeling a little down last night, but today is a new day.  Blue skies remind me of how much I am loved.  Have an awesome day friends. And.....on a side note.... Go Viewpoint Patriots!!! We are in the playoffs! Wooo Hoooooo!

I confess, I am a habitual cliff jumper

If ever there were a person who was less afraid of change than I am-- I have yet to meet them.  In fact, I would call myself a "change seeker", a habitual "cliff jumper".  That mentality comes with many a flaw: It makes it difficult for me to stick to a boring, or stressful task. It makes it very difficult for me to defer to the authority of others, I am not sure why that is, it is a rule breaker mentality I suppose. I have trouble with "negative nellie's", or those who must always play "devil's advocate." My brain says YES before it fully processes information. While all of those flaws must seem horrifying to the average person, me not so much. Not being an over analyzer frees me from many a burden: I don't have to know the outcome before leaping, so it opens me up to success.  It opens me up to failure too, no doubt, but I can process failure and move on better than most people. I don't freak out when inevitable ...
